BRD – Groupe Société Générale (BRD), is the second largest Romanian bank. French Société Générale holds a majority stake of 59.4% in the bank. At the end of 2012, the Bank had nearly 2.2 mil retail and some 135,000 corporate clients and operated 915 branches. BRD was founded in 1990 as a commercial bank by taking over assets of the former Investment Bank of Romania.
