Bank liquid assets as a share of short-term liabilities rose 14.9% yoy to 26.8% in Belgium in 1Q2024, according to the National Central Bank. This is 4.10% less than in the previous quarter.

Historically, bank liquid assets as a share of short-term liabilities in Belgium reached an all time high of 86.2% in 4Q2008 and an all time low of 22.4% in 3Q2019. When compared to Belgium's main peers, bank liquid assets as a share of short-term liabilities in France amounted to 23.8%, 34.2% in Germany, 35.7% in Luxembourg and 29.5% in Netherlands in 1Q2024.
